Theatre - “Garry and Grace”

Grace, an 80-year-old American woman, lives in a nursing home, surrounded by memories of the past and the hope that one day her fiancé will return from the war... Her world suddenly turns upside down when Gerin, a 97-year-old Armenian artist, moves into the neighboring room. As a result, they are forced to share a common balcony, which becomes the main source of their conflict. And so, two people — a man and a woman, strangers abandoned by life — must learn to share the space where they are forced to coexist. Gerin is bitter toward the world, abandoned by his wife and children. He chooses to live in isolation, surrounded by his own paintings that reflect memories of his childhood. However, as the conflict between Gerin and Grace intensifies, they begin to feel much closer to each other than they ever expected. Their personal stories mysteriously begin to intertwine. Their joys, regrets, and love become memories that seem too distant to be real. Both are victims of the devastating consequences of war, having lived for years with the hopeless expectation that one day, by some miracle, they would meet those they lost amid the devastation of war. Over time, they find comfort in each other's company. What begins as a simple argument gradually transforms into a love story. Despite their age, Gerin and Grace remain optimistic and full of the desire to live. Their jokes and gentle sense of humor bring a unique warmth to the characters, making their story both touching and comical. Their memories and mistakes are universal, transcending national boundaries. The play emphasizes that the cruelty of war does not end with the end of battles; everyone affected by it carries wounds that remain throughout their entire lives. The performance gives the audience an opportunity to reflect on life itself, understand which choices shape who we become, and discover the idea that love and devotion are what make long-awaited reunions possible. “Gerin and Grace” is a tragicomedy in two acts, suitable for audiences of all ages.
