Theatre - Ardalion

Historical mimodrama At the beginning of the 4th century, Christianity was spreading rapidly in the East. The Roman Empire opposed this movement, sending travelling mime troupes to eastern cities to mock Gospel stories and stage anti-Christian performances. Ardalion belonged to one such troupe. During a performance, a heavenly light descends upon him and he converts to Christianity. His enraged fellow actors crucify him onstage. The farce turns into tragedy and Ardalion is martyred.
