Classical - Jazzical Komitas: NCOA & Joel Martin
Jun 16 • 7:30 PM
About the event
On June 16 at 7:30 PM, the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra will present the
unique concert project “Jazzical Komitas” at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall,
blending the depth of Armenian sacred and national music with the free
expression of jazz innovation.
The orchestra’s Artistic Director and Chief Conductor is Vahan Papyan.
The concert soloist is pianist and composer Joel Martin from New York.
The concert will be conducted by British-Armenian conductor and tenor Sipan
Olah.
For the first time, Yerevan audiences will have the opportunity to hear Joel
Martin’s original “Jazzical Komitas” arrangements performed live by the Armenian
State Chamber Orchestra.
Internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Joel Martin (New York) is known
for his explosive fusion of classical virtuosity and jazz improvisation. His
collaborations include world-renowned artists such as Alan Menken, Fergie,
Stevie Wonder, and opera legend Kathleen Battle.
Despite not being of Armenian origin, Joel Martin has maintained a deep
connection with Komitas’ music for more than six years. He calls himself an
“adopted Armenian,” moving audiences in Yerevan, Los Angeles, and New York with
his emotional interpretations. The project already includes two albums, with a
third planned for release alongside a Grammy submission.
Joining him is British-Armenian conductor and tenor Sipan Olah (London), whose
collaboration with Martin brings a distinctive international and cultural depth
to the project.
This concert is part of the worldwide “Jazzical Komitas” tour for 2026–2028,
covering 20 cities. The first collaboration between Joel Martin, Sipan Olah, and
the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra took place on October 4, 2025, in New York,
followed by planned performances in Yerevan and London.
